Here's the print all doctored up by yours truly (No less then 70 hours in Photoshop cleaning the raw file).
Only 100 full size (17"X22") prints were made and currently available at $40.00 a pop.
Thanks to Edwin and the crew at SGX for doing one Helluva' job!

i have to ask what took 70 hours in photoshop? are you new to the program that would make sense, but i doubt it. your lines are brilliant and effective on their own w/o touchup what did you do redraw every line? no disrespect i just have to know

Well, I am fairly new to Photoshop to be fair. However the simple fact is look at the color file I had to work with. Now imagine just dropping the greys and thresholding the blacks. You'd lose 1/2 the line work in the process and achieve none of the dry brush in the horse. As such I was forced to level pieces as I went, ie. lasso tool a section, bring the greys down to a manageable level then bring the blacks back up to about 10-15%
This took quite awhile to get the file to where I wanted it to be, oh and I did a bit of digital inking to fix lines that were not meeting the light source properly or to generally clean them up for the print since it's full size. You can hide a lot in reduction but not at this scale.
I'm sure there are plenty of short cuts I could have used but I'm a stickler for quality and this process seems to be the most effective in getting the file to look the way I want.

well, thank god this was no 6 hours; cause its beautifu... it would have taken me longer traditionally but i think digitally i could clean a bit faster but so what~ it would never have been this amazing anyway since i am just a gigalo ~ i am no where near this good with those damn 102s yuck.. this is really just beautiful accomplishment jw ...i watched your video re~ inking it was pretty good ~ you glazed over any digital cleanup if i recall...

im envious of this level and attention to detail and hierarchy

I wasn't doing my own clean up when I filmed the video back in 2008. In todays market publishers expect the Inkers to do it even though they aren't paying anymore for the extra work. Part of the digital age I suppose, either adapt or die.

yes the image you inked was absolutely excellent in detail and you did a really nice job. and your correct that file was crazy (even the one in the video was beautiful) i completely understand and did not intend to insult you what so ever i just wondered how many hours some of the greats take to do a top quality page and it just seems like it takes everyone just about the same time A LOT OF IT thanks for communicating i am a huge admirer of your process. peace

i am a photoshop/illustrator instructor and an adobe certified expert ~ so if you need any info i would be happy to offer it.

If I was EIC at Marvel I'd hire you to go back and re-ink all Marc's X-Men work, get it recolored and release them.

But that's me...

I could but there's no way Marvel would pony up the duckets to have me re-ink Marc's old work. Would be fun though.
